The Accidental Jazz Band (AJB) is looking for intermediate-level adult musicians to fill out its ranks for the Fall 2016—Spring 2017 season. In particular, we are looking for trombones, a baritone sax, and a guitarist. Other instrumentalists are welcome to join as well (space permitting). Aspirants must have some experience playing big band jazz, be reasonably proficient at their instruments and should have a willingness to (learn to) improvise.
The AJB is a big band which ranges from swing, bop and latin jazz, to cool jazz, rock and funk. We are centered on the North Shore, with rehearsals on Tuesday evenings. We play at local events and venues, including for instance Caulfeild Day, Carnegie Hall (DTES) and the Fairmont Vancouver. We are led by the dynamite Vancouver trumpeter Melissa Hammer.
While members of the AJB are amateurs, we are enthusiastically committed to continually learning jazz, improving our musicianship and, of course, having a ripping good time doing it! If you are interested in joining or would like more information, please call Mark Gotay @ 778-237-9583.
